The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is pleased to announce the formation of a new partnership with ING Real Estate Development Australia, developers of the new Harbour Town and the Southern Star observation wheel at Waterfront City in Melbourne’s Docklands.

The bringing together of a national icon and event, the Melbourne Cup Carnival and the Melbourne Cup, with a new icon in the making, the VRC is proud to be in partnership with The Southern Star and Waterfront City.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival will this year be closely linked with Waterfront City which will be hosting a number of high profile events in the Waterfront City piazza, within Harbour Town and The Southern Star throughout the Spring Racing Carnival.
 
The Melbourne Cup, (along with VRC Deputy CEO Sue Lloyd-Williams, renowned Melbourne milliners, Richard Nylon and Kim Fletcher and ING representatives) is currently ‘touring’ Singapore and will continue on to London, promoting Victoria, Melbourne and Waterfront City as world class tourist destinations. At both cities, The Cup will pay a visit to each observation wheel, The Singapore Flyer and the London Eye.

The Southern Star, scheduled to open in November 2008, is expected to become a major tourism drawcard for Melbourne, expecting to attract over 1.5 million visitors annually and offering views of Melbourne’s CBD, Port Phillip Bay and Beyond.

The unique state-of-the-art structure will feature 21 enclosed air-conditioned glass cabins and a world-first 3.7km LED lighting system providing stunning and ever-changing displays at night.
